About Me

Hello! I'm June. I am originally from Auburn, Washington. I'm a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Plant Pathology with a certificate in Asian American Studies. If it wasn't already obvious, I love to write, typically fiction and poetry when I'm not blogging. I also love the outdoors, listening to music (seriously, it's almost an obsession), collaging in my art journal, cooking, adventuring, and playing the violin and jaw harp (though admittedly I'm not very good at the latter).

What's the story behind my blog title? The term "perpetual foreigner" is what many scholars call the stereotype that has been affixed to Asian American individuals. No matter how long someone and their family has lived in the U.S., or even if they were born here and are legal citizens, Asian Americans have never really been seen as "true" Americans throughout history all the way to current times. We may experience less overt racism than other racial and ethnic minorities at times, but are still victims of the model minority stereotype and constant microaggressions that work to destabilize our legitimacy in this nation. It's my goal to make people aware of the issues surrounding anti-Asian racism.

In addition to the above, I also blog about: my study abroad and travel experiences, stories about my life as a Cambodian-American person, and other thoughts that may cross my mind as I navigate my way around young adulthood.

Cheers!
